Possible solution, which AdGuard already uses in AdGuard for macOS from memory.

Sparkle Project allows for automatic upgrades. Refer to here. Setting the info.plist SUAllowsAutomaticUpdates boolean type to True will always allow automatic updates even if automatic checking of updates is disabled.
