Red text is rendering poorly #240

For some reason the overlay is rendering red text quite poorly, unlike all the other colors that it is currently rendering. Compare the two images below:
red-text-pi
yellow-text-pi

In my testing this only seems to happen on the Pi; the below image is from my Mac:
red-text-mac
