This message pops up whenever I try to export a fbx (with bones) as a wmb file (using the exporter from the MGRR branch).
Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?

I don't see any message attached.
Also you cannot export a FBX as WMB. There is too much data that cannot be reconstructed from nothing.
The workflow is usually as follows; import base WMB, import FBX (or any other model format you want), edit and merge the FBX into the WMB, export WMB. You have to start from an imported WMB (usually the one you plan to target on export).

And secondly, the MGRR branch is not maintained, it exists because of some pull requests and tests a while ago. If you want to export MGRR's WMB4 format, look into Jacky720's fork I believe.

just tried it like this, im still getting the same error

That error could be anything. Please attach whatever is found in the console when making issue reports. And again, the MGRR branch does not work. Try Jack720's fork, and if the error is related to that fork, I can't help.

I'm not using the mgrr fork anymore, I'm using the one you provided

That is not the system console.
To display the console, go to Window ‣ Toggle System Console.
