Component versions - differences & inter-compatibility

Hi

Now that the Core Components have been in use for a while and there are a lot of projects using them, we are coming to the point of trying to understand benefits of upgrading our proxy components.

For example we built one project on v30 project Archetype so are using Page v2, Teaser v1, image v2 etc.
We noticed some new functionality in Teaser v2 and upgraded our proxy component to use that but noticed that in fact Teaser v2 is dependent on Image v3 and Page v3 to work properly ("Featured Image" option in the dialog doesn't work with Page v1 pages).

This raises 2 questions:

1. Is it possible to have a summarized compatibility matrix between the component versions (other that just reading all release notes)?

2. Is it possible to have detailed technical/functional differences between component versions to judge what has changed?
   For example the Embed component - v1 vs v2, when we do a diff is basically nothing changed, so no functional benefit to upgrading.
