I'm not sure, hence "possible". There's a strange coincidence I noticed several times in a row which is the reason I decided to make it known.
My MacBook became completely stalled, frozen till no input was possible, with a flicking sound coming from its body at regular intervals, so the only means to recover it was a hard restart. That happened twice in a time frame of a month. Both times I was playing a video in VLC, and Chromium was running. Immediately before being brought home, I was shown a standard dialog "Your computer was shut down because of a problem". However, there were no logs of the event I could identify as kernel panic or any other critical system failure in the Console unless I looked in the wrong place.
The only pieces of information that could pretend to have some relevance were references to that kext that was installed together with Chromium but the time marks are within the first minutes after logging back, not before.
