Possibly add the option for Chromium Legacy to use the native UI theming like in Supermium?

This is a very unimportant feature request, but I feel like it needs to be asked. Is there a way to port Supermium's native UI rendering and trapezoid tabs/small mode to Chromium Legacy? Those are amazing features and I would love to have them as an option in macOS/OS X. Having a browser that works on old OS X is amazing, but having it fit in with the rest of the OS would be the cherry-on-top!

This would require a complete rewrite of the macviews part of the chrome, since trapezoid tabs were removed around chrome 70 or so. Even just getting a unified window decoration is non-trivial see, #4

It should technically be possible to get the unified window at least, all you need to do to get unified UI is to have chrome root content view be the first child of NSThemeFrame which will allow you to simulate the effect of NSFullSizeContentViewWindowMask. Or you can play around with some of the properties in NSThemeFrame to e.g. set the titlebar height to zero which should do the same thing. All of this should be possible by swizzling as well to skip the build step. But really modern flat chrome ui looks horribly non-native on < 10.10 so unified window is probably worse than what we have now. Also soon md3 redesign will be forced which makes things look even worse.

Ugh you'd probably have to muck around with some other views then to get things resized properly, and then re-add the spotlight icons.

Although that gives me another idea: if someone really wanted, one could replace the metal-gradient titlebar style with a flat color "fairly easily", by replacing the drawRect of NSThemeFrame. On one hand it makes the titlebar stand out more, but on the other you can choose a color so it blends into rest of chrome ui.

I realize that I perhaps care about visuals more than most, but for comparison, here as how Zoom looks on Mavericks:

I don't think it looks very good. Let's assume we could get Chromium's window buttons working and such... the best case scenario is that it comes out looking something like this, right?

I do think that one of the major strengths of Aqua is that it looks good even with apps that have very different visual styles! You can run weird Java and Adobe Air stuff and it all looks basically fine! But a major reason this is true is because of unifying elements like the title bar. Take away the title bar and everything becomes much worse.

Visually speaking, I am honestly quite pleased with the status quo. The one thing I'd like is to tweak some of the layout constants: #196 (comment). Lowest hanging fruit would be LOCATION_BAR_HEIGHT, followed by the height of the tabs. And maybe we could get rid of the space between the tabs and the title bar—I assume that's also one of these constants but I'm not clear which one.

...if your problem is "the rest of the Chrome UI", Chrome does support themes!

I was about to write "the primary reason I don't use a theme is because the colors don't change when a window goes out of focus, which is distracting." However, I just realized that the last of the themes I linked does change color, so maybe this is something themes have control over!

Oh that's a long standing issue with chrome (ever since chrome supported themes I think). You used to be able to swizzle something to fix it, but that was pre-macviews when things were actually native nsviews. No idea what they're doing now or how hard it is to fix. It's also possible they fixed the bug.

Actually since you can use a theme to texture the titlebar window to match osx's native metal gradient, probably you could get it looking a lot better. E.g. even if you don't have a unified control, you could try to make the switch from the os titlebar to the chrome's tab panel more seamless by having them match color.

You could probably also make your own theme that matches 10.9 metal pattern better by just taking a screencap of the pattern in e.g. finder and using that.
