Varied models of operations exist across each stage in the waste stream, and each of these lifecycle stages have further intricacies. Let us take the example of Collection. How, when, and where collection needs to be done and by whom it will be done depends on multiple factors.

The trigger for collection may be the following:

1. Reported: For example, basis a service request raised by the citizen/institution/organization (For example, if a citizen is looking for a septic tank to be cleared in case of overflow or leakage)
2. Scheduled: For example, solid waste in urban areas are picked up basis a pre-created schedule. Or medical waste from hospital facilities are collected daily.
3. Detected: Auto-detection by systems like smart bins, or generated via complaints raised from citizens/third parties.

Similarly, collection time for waste may depend on multiple factors:

1. Basis availability of the Transportation Service Provider
2. Basis citizen’s availability
3. Basis a pre-created schedule
   Etc
