There are some use cases for collapsing a breakdown dimension using the first or last value. These should be added to the list of available operations in the "collapse by" dropdown. This is a very simple addition.

Examples:

  • Getting the difference between the sum of bytes between first and the last day: formula cumulative_sum(differences(sum(bytes)), collapse date histogram by last
  • Parity for TSVBs "last value" mode - have the date histogram and then collapse by last (in case someone wants to keep the exact behavior with auto-sized buckets)
