The active app should be highlighted/selected/something to signify that it is the active app. Clicking on it should also have the same effect as clicking the tabs when they are active.

One important consideration is that the active app is not always described by the URL, like the status page for instance. When you are using Kibana and end up at the status page the same URL is used but the content is now the status page (in order to support resuming your previous state). In this scenario we should be linking to the last URL for kibana. In this same scenario, the lastUrl for kibana and the current url match, so the browser will actually prevent navigation/reloading. This means we need to somehow forcre reloading.
