Steps to reproduce:

  • Make aws_security_group and aws_security_group_rule in config.
  • Apply so they create.
  • Hit AWS Console or CLI and delete the SG rule.

Expected behavior:

  • The next terraform plan sees the rule is gone and wants to create it.

Current behavior:

  • Plan fails with:
Error refreshing state: 1 error(s) occurred

* aws_security_group_rule.foo: [WARN] No ingress rules were found for Security Group (foo) looking for Security Group Rule (sgrule-123456)

Culprit seems to be here:

return fmt.Errorf(
"[WARN] No %s rules were found for Security Group (%s) looking for Security Group Rule (%s)",
ruleType, *sg.GroupName, d.Id())
