This corrects a very rare defect with auto_signal that was causing repeated use-after-free in unit tests on Linux, though this defect does theoretically affect all platforms. The issue has to do with an incorrect responsibility transfer inference.
Rectify the defect by making use of the atomic list concept added in #814.
