Some are just for manual/user required input data.
Some are just info in relation to sections below it.
Some are fully automated (ie; taking there input from other cells)
... and some are just test/debug cells.
Being able to color, for example, all manual input cells seems a potential nice way to add some additional (visual) clarity to a worksheet. (when done in moderation of course ;-) )
In the end this is probably best done in a way so that one can change the used color for multiple cells in one go. (ie: indirect coloring based on some ID(tag-name) that is link the cell-button to its color)

Cells can have different purposes. Like:
