Cannot zoom out to view full map when map has small width

I need to have a map size 280x160 pixels showing the whole globe, but i'm not able to do this - some of the map is clipped.

This issue is similar to #3055 but unfortunately that thread did not provide a solution for me.

mapbox-gl-js version: 2.7.0

browser: Chrome

Steps to Trigger Behavior

1. Open example in code sandbox (just using the simple map example at a small size)
2. Cannot see full globe when zoomed out as far as possible

Expected Behavior

When zoomed out as far as possible, should be able to see full globe.
