XMPP folk constantly miss rosters - grouped lists of contacts whose presence you can view, which also acts as a standard contact list across multiple clients. We should do better to accomodate this.

I would love to have this implemented. I'm considering replacing my xmpp service with matrix.org. the only problem i have with it is that its too much group chat oriented. As much as i personally dont have a problem with that, i know some users will find it anooying.

Having both contact list and chat oriented aproaches is matrix.org would make it a perfect IM.
