[Question] Icons missing in the auto-completion because nerd font is needed?

Hey, I recently pulled the latest changes from master, and I'm now seeing this in the auto-completions. Is this related to the nerd font? I haven't installed it in the past, but it was working fine, so I'm not sure if it's needed now.

OS: Linux Mint 21 Cinnamon 5.4.12
Terminal: Default
Neovim Version
NVIM v0.12.0-dev

It looks like the plugin used for completion was changed recently:

• feat: switch nvim-cmp for blink.cmp #1426

It does seem a bit inconsistent that kickstart is careful to provide fallbacks for other plugins where a Nerd Font is not installed.

From a quick look at the blink.cmp docs, I think you can make the layout more similar to how it was before by adding the following config to the blink.cmp completion section:

        -- nvim-cmp style menu without icons
        menu = {
          draw = {
            columns = {
              { 'label', 'label_description', gap = 1 },
              { 'kind' },
            },
          },
        },
      },

Here's what I used to handle this automatically based on kickstart's standard vim.g.have_nerd_font variable, inside blink.cmp's opts.completion:

menu = {
   draw = {
      -- Components to render, grouped by column
      columns = vim.g.have_nerd_font
          and { { 'kind_icon' }, { 'label', 'label_description', gap = 1 } }
          or { { 'kind' }, { 'label', 'label_description', gap = 1 } },
   },
},

Hey, thanks for the help. I'm not 100% sure where to add the code. Is it in the init.lua file or which one? I found this section in init.lua. Should I add it here?

Ok, I added it there in that section from init.lua, on this line
--- @type blink.cmp.Config
opts/completion section

And it removes the weird icons

Cool, glad you figured it out. For reference, it can go anywhere inside this opts section. As an example, you could put it right at the top, like this:

For some reason, adding it to the top gave me an error. I have edited the init.lua with some personal configuration, so maybe it relates to that.
