porting checkpoints to other simulator

hi there, I'm a newbie trying to port checkpoints generated by gem5 SE mode to the HDL simulator (say VCS or verilator). During my work, I got stuck by two major questions:

1. what is FDARRAY recorded in the .cpt file? According to the description in Doxygen, it contains input/output/errout file descriptors. Not sure what kind of information will stored here.
2. the dumped physical memory is formed in a compressed binary format. Is there any method that I can extract its contents?
