Hi,
I reached out to the registrar NameCheap, Inc. of the domain https://sangria-graphql.org/ today.

Tldr; We have to file a support ticket to the Risk Management team https://support.namecheap.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit

I can file the support ticket, but I have questions.

Questions

  1. Do we have any credentials?
  2. Do we have a death certificate and maybe some sort of statement that we can take care of anything sangria related.
  3. In case the domain has to be transferred to a new owner, who will be the new owner?
  4. Do we have any funds to pay for the renewal?

This is the thread from the support chat.

22:07 Your Question: Dear support team, I was tasked to look into options on how a .org domain can be renewed that was created by somebody that unfortunately died. The domain is about an open-source project that has ppl who contribute to it. NameCheap, Inc. is the registrar.
22:07 Please wait and one of our operators will be with you shortly.
22:08 Your request is important to us. Please wait and one of our operators will be with you shortly.
22:08 You are now chatting with Dana Gavrish (SSL CS) - SSL Support
22:09 Dana Gavrish: Hello Alexandra! Thank you for contacting our Live Support Chat!
22:09 Dana Gavrish: Please specify the domain so that I can check it.
22:10 Stolzenberger: Sure: https://sangria-graphql.org/
22:10 Dana Gavrish: Thank you for specifying. Let me check it.
22:20 Dana Gavrish: Thank you for being online. The domain sangria-graphql.org can be found on our system. If you do not have any account credentials, please submit a ticket to our Risk Management team here: https://support.namecheap.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit
22:21 Dana Gavrish: Please make sure to include as many details as possible when submitting a ticket.
22:21 Stolzenberger: I see.
22:22 Stolzenberger: No, no account credentials available otherwise would have tried to log in.
22:22 Stolzenberger: How much time do we have left to renew the domain and likely transfer it to a new owner?
22:23 Stolzenberger: What is the right department for the support ticket?
22:23 Dana Gavrish: Please select "Risk Management".
22:24 Dana Gavrish: Let me try to check when the domain expires.
22:24 Stolzenberger: Ah sorry, you mentioned it above.
22:27 Dana Gavrish: This domain is good until 2020-07-28.
22:30 Stolzenberger: Ok, thanks. I guess this is it so far. Have a good day and thanks for your help.

Any updates from NameCheap support? I don't know exactly why but it's currently tagged by my Akamai Enterprise Threat Protector setup as "phishing":

@cbrunnkvist I did not file the support ticket myself. I asked for an update.

This status indicates that it is not possible to transfer the domain name registration, which will help prevent unauthorized transfers resulting from hijacking and/or fraud. If you do want to transfer your domain, you must first contact your registrar and request that they remove this status code.

Soooo where do we go from here?

fyi, as mentioned in the other thread, I reserved sangria-graphql.dev and sangria-graphql.com in case folks want continuity now while the issues with .org are being resolved. Who owns the web server? Happy to point either or both of those domains to the website as an interim or permanent path.

@virtualirfan I think we should host the docs as an interim solution so that devs can access the docs.

Is their now a solution? I think the offer by virtualirfan is a very good one.

As we have no answer from the DNS provider from now, I think that your proposition is excellent @virtualirfan .

What do you need to set it up?

How soon can the documentation be up? I consider it very important, currently I am looking through source code to figure out certain implementations.

What is the next step in getting the docs up? I would love to help here as I need the docs badly.

@Crisp3333 I have no idea what needs to be done.
If you're willing take time for it, please do so.
I'm ready to give you any permissions you need.

Ok I will look at this over the weekend and see what options are available. Things I am currently thinking about (hosting—web server, domain name @virtualirfan, framework/language used to create the docs)

Hi @yanns have you considered using github pages for hosting? I just built the site with jekyll and everything seems fine

I'm ok with any solutions. I personally don't have the time to take care of it.
I'm asking for help since months.
Feel free to jump in if you want/can.

I've updated links on https://github.com/sangria-graphql.

What is missing is http://try.sangria-graphql.org/ right?
