I have written a tool, that generates a minimap: https://github.com/dpc/text-minimap .

It's really fast, supports scaling, and can be extended with new features. It could be detected in vim-minimap and if it's present it could be used instead of python scripts.

I hope by using it the performance of vim-minimap should be perfectly acceptable.

Let me know if you would be interested in adding support for it in vim-minimap. If so, is anyone is willing to help me integrate it? I'm not a proficient vim/python scripter. I'll give it a try once I find some time.
