Loose ends

Some major and minor update items were listed and discussed in some old issues that were never fully resolved, tracking here:

• Major release with possible enhancements & breaking changes #773 - major release items that were planned in 2018

• Upcoming minor release items #685 - minor release items that were planned in 2017

At this point I would like to give top priority to finishing the new, simpler plugin design that is in progress at this time as discussed in brodycj/ask-me-anything#3.

P.S. I probably should start using milestones to help better track the various loose ends for upcoming minor and major releases. This has worked well for me on other projects such as Apache Cordova and xmldom.
