This PR adds a list of contributors you can donate to.
This PR is based on #78 as it changes the contribute.rst.
Keep in mind that this list is incomplete. I only added people I knew accepted donations.
To do:

  • get a proper PayPal link for David
  • add contributors that want to be listed as well

Take a look here: https://data.moto9000.moe/sphinx/%2381/contribute/donate.html (f1407fb)

I am opposed to a donate page. I am ok with a contributors page where it clearly states they can open a pr to add themselves to the bottom of the page, and any additional information they want to share about self. Including payment information and such.
Donate should reserved for when the financial burden of the project becomes too big for one individual.

Donate should reserved for when the financial burden of the project becomes too big for one individual.
I don't really get this part. The financial burden on individuals is pretty much completely variable. If I cannot afford to contribute something to the project, I am not going to do that. And if I still contribute something that I cannot afford, I can suddenly ask for donations?

To me it just makes sense to give people the option to reimburse developers for their time (which they could spend making money) and costs that come up (like hosting, electricity, etc.).
Personally I would love to worry less about finances and more about Vircadia. Then there is also people like David, that seem like they would love to spend less time on a day-job and more time on Vircadia.

Of course I would prefer it if we had some soft of organization that can take donations and decide what to do with them. Personally it is too expensive/too much work for me to create one and we aren't really at a point where we have a lot of money to manage.

There also isn't currently any way to know that anyone accepts donations. I only found out about David accepting them after him working on a project I had put a bounty on.

As I have said not opposed to having a list like this. Just should not be called donation. That should be reserved for when we need to fund something important like if hosting the build files and stuff starts to bankrupt dale.

While I don't have a Patreon or anything like that, here's my Linode referral code:

When asking on a makers meeting there didn't seem to be any strong feelings about this (or much interest at all).
Personally I feel like if it is only David and Me, then it doesn't really justify a dedicated documentation page. If we count Dales referral link, we are still only at three entries, and I am not very keen at putting referral links into a page like this.

I will leave the PR on here as a code example for putting multiline images into doc pages. Or for the probably far future where a page like this might become a relevant topic again.
