"Charleston Area Medica Center announced a phishing attack may have leaked access to patients’ personal information.
According to a data breach notice from CAMC, “a small number of email users were the subject of a phishing attack” in October 2024 that may have resulted in names, birthdays, contact information, social security numbers and health records being compromised.
CAMC noted an investigation involving a forensic security provider revealed a single email user’s mailbox was accessed and “no other CAMC systems or data storage were impacted.”
“At this time, we are not away of any misuse of the personal information potentially affected by this incident,” the notice said. “Although we have no reason to believe your information has been, or will be misused because of this incident, you should remain vigilant and check your medical account statements.”"
