When clicking on the download button, the client could offer the existing CSV download but also open a menu that allows other means of downloading. One could be a simple R script created in the client that downloads the current time series and temporal extend in R using sensorweb4R. The script could be displayed in a pop-up, or be downloaded as a .R file attachment with the proper mime type so that the client computer open the registered script editor for R files.

Alternative to downloading could also be "Open Data in RCloud" > https://rcloud.social/
