External Editor: Configure temp file extension

When external editor is used, we create a temporary file and open it with the editor.
Currently, the file has always the extension txt making it recognized as text file by the text editor. However it could be useful to be able to configure the extension of the file so users can set the extension to md for example and get he proper text highlighting inside the external editor.
