McAfee Hates Arcamax #134
Comments
Not a particularly good reason, no. I'm guessing it's because I started scraping arcamax first, and didn't know there was a good reason to prioritize Comics Kingdom.
Is your RSS feed reader trying to hit arcamax.com for some reason? On a side note, DNS-over-https might help solve that problem? Not sure... If Comics Kingdom is the publisher (which is sounds like they are) then I'd like to default links to point at CK instead. Although if it breaks existing feeds, I'd rather not. |
Let's use Daddy Daze an example, if I may. Your feed is all Arcamax, but if you would scrape directly from Comics Kingdom, not only would I not get blank previews in my feed reader, because it can't get through to Arcamax on my Fios-powered network, but also Comics Kingdom has the added benefit of having the strip in color! And you cut out the middleman. The easiest workaround for me, if I'm on my phone, is to turn off WiFi and go cellular, but if there's some easy way to replace Arcamax globally, that'd be cool. I'm afraid I sound horribly whiny and self-centered, which is not my intention, but it's something I've been curious about, and recent changes in the web-scraping-to-RSS world have finally prompted me to ask. |
McAfee's Secure Home Platform, which Verizon Fios injects over my home internet connection, thinks (not necessarily incorrectly) that Arcamax is a threat, with a Categorization level of: PUPs (potentially unwanted programs), and a reputation level of: Medium Risk, so McAfee (running on the ISP side) will throw up all sorts of blocking messages that need explicit permission to bypass, wreaking havoc on RSS feed readers.
Is there some reason why you're not going directly to the publisher's site for those? Specifically Comics Kingdom for Bizarro, Daddy Daze, Mother Goose and Grimm, and Zits, to name but a few? Could you possibly avoid Arcamax as a source?
Thanks.
