Bug Description:

"We're not able to process this request. Please refresh the page and try again." error notice is displayed when placing the order using the "Afterpay" payment method on the "Shortcode Checkout" page.

Environment:

Woocommerce Version : WooCommerce 8.8.3
WooCommerce Payments - 7.7.0-test-1

PC:
Windows 10,
Chrome(Version 124.0.6367.208)
Firefox(Version 125.0.3)

Steps To Reproduce:

1. Create any test site.
2. Install and activate all the required plugins.
3. Upload and activate the WooCommerce Payments v7.7.0-test-1 plugin.
4. Complete the setup wizard.
5. Complete the KYC flow.
   1.Ensure "Afterpay" is enabled in the WooPayments settings, at Payments > Settings in the "Payment methods" section.
6. On the frontend, add an item to your cart, and go to"Shortcode Checkout" page.
   Ensure that the presentment currency is "USD" via the currency widget (in case of multi-currency sites) or via WooCommerce > Settings > General, "Currency" section (in case of single currency site).
7. Enter a US-based billing address
8. Verify "Afterpay" and its logo are now in the Payment methods area
9. Select "Afterpay" from the list of available payment methods
10. Click "Place order"
11. Observe that ""We're not able to process this request. Please refresh the page and try again." error notice is displayed.

Actual Result:

"We're not able to process this request. Please refresh the page and try again." error notice is displayed when placing the order using the "Afterpay" payment method on the "Shortcode Checkout" page.

Expected Result:

Order should be placed without any error when placing the order using the "Afterpay" payment method on the "Shortcode Checkout" page.

• I have deactivated other plugins and confirmed this bug occurs when only WooCommerce plugin is active.
• This bug happens with a default WordPress theme active, or Storefront.
• I can reproduce this bug consistently using the steps above.
