We've gone back and forth this in the past, but I want to raise it again: should the hash in the url be updated on every query? As I see it, the debate boils down to:
Last time we had the debate, position 1 won out. As we get more people interested in the platform, I want to reopen the issue again. I'm seeing recently a lot of people trying to share links from the movie bookworm, though, and failing; they don't know to click on the chain to share a link, and just send a link to the front page. (Here are some examples.) There are people there actually embedding Twitter pictures while linking to the default search: I'm sure some of them don't realize a link is possible, but would like to use one.
I think making sharing work the way people expect it to (their current url is to the state of the page they're on) is much more valuable than the aesthetics of the address bar.
