Running Script as a service

Wanted a script that would gather meta data from whatever media is currently playing. I decided that asking dbus was the best approach rather than asking each app if they are running and then asking the app for data. I got the script working and figured that I would try to run it as a service. Now I can pull metadata and art for any bars or conky without any extra effort.
It's my first try so go easy...but I would love someone to look it over and give input.

Some next steps are to add images for netflix and vlc or if an image is not available. Also making a resized copy of the image for consistent placement in a bar.
