We have transitioned to storing data in the HDF5 format/file. It would be useful to have a python script that prints the paths within the HDF5 file. I am thinking about a tree like structure.

I have been thinking about this for some time. I stopped once I found a third party software, HDFView [https://www.hdfgroup.org/downloads/hdfview/], that works well. However, this involves downloading another software package. When i find myself only looking for the structure of the HDF5.
