Cate doesn't work when two instances are open at once

Expected behavior

If user has two cate instances open at once (probably accidently), either they should work without interfering with each other or user should be prevented from opening more than one instance in the first place.

Actual behavior

The problems are random but include: 3D globe disappears, workspace cannot be saved because it's already in use, resource numbering not in sequence.

Steps to reproduce the problem

1. Open cate desktop, try opening esacci.OZONE.mon.L3.NP.multi-sensor.multi-platform.MERGED.fv0002.r1, with temporal subset e.g. from 2007-01-01 to 2007-03-31

2. Open second cate desktop instance, try opening esacci.CLOUD.mon.L3C.CLD_PRODUCTS.multi-sensor.multi-platform.ATSR2-AATSR.2-0.r1 with temporal subset e.g. from 2007-01-01 to 2007-03-31

3. Try various operations such as opening the local datasets with different constraints applied. Look at World View.

4. In one instance, select File->Save Workspace. Then do the same in the other instance.
