Washer fluid level sensor TL;DR on this one: Best I can tell based on the workshop manual, neither the hybrid or Energi models have washer fluid level sensors. Ironically, the Ford Parts site does list a sensor available with direct fitment to these two models (for all model years). Or at least not on the early model years. The only workshop manual I have is for the 13/14 MY. Long version: Reviewing both the Ford Parts site diagrams and photos for various components as well as the workshop manual, the washer fluid bottle doesn't have the hole for the sensor (the Energi version actually still has the little indent in the side where it is supposed to go). This is actually easy to see as the part diagrams on the Ford site show the sensor and where it is intended to go while the photos of the washer fluid bottle show no entry point. Modification would definitely be needed. Additionally, it appears there's no wiring going back to the BCM for this. Just the two wires for the washer pump. But there is a 6 pin connector at the washer fluid bottle, assuming some of the empty pins are intended for the level sensor. Sadly the workshop manual of course doesn't indicate any level sensor pinouts so it would be a guessing game to determine which pins on the BCM this would connect to. We can at least narrow it down to the same connector where the washer fluid pump goes. I'm guessing the sensor is a simple on/off switch type deal (only has two pins) so it could probably be easily tested with a short jumper wire. Programming-wise, there's washer fluid sensor configs in both the BCM and IPC. Thankfully the sensor looks to be pretty cheap. Pricing showing for me is like ~$15. The biggest headache would be figuring out the wiring. |

Found another potential OEM addition thanks to the overseas models: Looks like certain trims of the C-Max and Focus shared the same overhead panel as ours and those came with a cabin motion sensor for the alarm. As a worst case example you could leave the windows down but the car locked up and so much as sticking your hand inside the window would set it off. I need to verify again later this afternoon, but I do seem to recall seeing options for this in the Central Config in the BCM. Parts-wise this again falls under needing to import the parts since it doesn't seem like this was a thing for any North American models. But still doing research on this. If you have the ambient lighting and/or moonroof equipped, you definitely want to look for an equivalent panel. Based on eBay results, there's a ton without those controls and it just has a blank panel molded in to the whole thing. Whereas those with the controls it appears to be a separate insert that can easily be swapped. The motion sensor appears to tie in to the same LIN bus that the ambient light module uses back to the BCM. What brought my attention to this whole thing was glancing over wiring diagrams again for the Hybrid/Energi and the BCM clearly list an 'INTERIOR SCAN SENSOR LIN BUS' (C2280H Pin 12) which currently runs to the ambient lighting module. Based on some wiring diagrams I was able to find in random Google searches, this feeds other modules as well such as a compass module. However I wasn't able to find any confirmation to the motion sensor using this, but it seems logical. Bonus points: Some of these overhead panels had two extra ambient lights flanking the sunglasses holder. There are some marketing photos from Ford that show these having the same color options as we have. These should be easy to tap in to the existing system. There's a dedicated LIN bus from the ambient lighting module to all the ambient lights in the car and they just splice together on the same line. Same with the power feed. Then you just need a ground. Here's an example listing I was able to find with some photos: https://www.ebay.com/itm/185959269270 The actual motion sensor itself seems to be more readily available. If one wanted, they could probably hack it in to the existing panel or headliner. Not sure how it would affect the sensor visibility. |

Thought I would start this as I'm sure there's some potential useful modifications to these vehicles to consider. (Also an ulterior motive: Found one real odd one just now I'll add below)
