This Month in Forest 🌲

Welcome to the November 💆‍♂️ edition of This Month in Forest! This month has been a bit quieter, as nearly the entire Forest team spent two weeks in Thailand.

Highlights

🛺 NV24 upgrade

The NV24 upgrade was successfully executed at epoch 4461240 on November 20th, with no issues. The network is running smoothly with the new features and improvements.

🇹🇭 Team Retreat in Thailand

The Forest team gathered for a week-long retreat in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Some of us attended the inaugural Filecoin Hacker House, and we even picked up some charming cat pins from the FilOz team! 💙

During the summit, our CTO and Chief of Coffee delivered a fantastic presentation on why blockchain struggles with indexing:

After Chiang Mai, we traveled to Bangkok for Devcon 7, where ChainSafe hosted a booth.

By day, we were getting our brains punched with deep Ethereum talks 🧠 (PostgreSQL indexing, anyone?). By night, the young Thai fighters were delivering some real knockout punches! 🥊

Development

💠 Eth RPC progress

A big shoutout to Viraj Bhartiya, a member of the Protocol Labs Dev Guild, who is making his first contribution to Forest by working on the Filecoin.EthGetBlockReceipts method. Kudos to him for diving in (just don’t go playing with matches in the Forest!🌲🧑‍🚒).

⚡ F3 Delayed

F3 activation on Mainnet has been delayed until NV25, as all implementation teams are working to ensure that testing coverage fully supports F3 Mainnet readiness.

In the meantime, we've added new CLI commands to improve functionality:

• forest-cli f3 manifest
• forest-cli f3 status
• forest-cli f3 certs get

♻️ Forest GC

We temporarily disabled the Garbage Collection process as it was over-collecting. Stay tuned, it will be back soon 😎.
