A user in our Discord group asked for more information about our team and I figured that this would be a good opportunity to formally introduce our project, team and vision. Chinilla was born out of a desire for a well-maintained vanilla fork of the Chia blockchain without a large pre-farm. The modest pre-farm of 21,000 HCX that we did make will go to supporting build out and infrastructure such as faucets, Chinilla Asset Tokens and more. Chinilla maintains the same concensus as Chia with respect to block rewards, timing, halving, etc. While maintining active development on Chinilla and merging the upstream main branch on a regular basis, we aim to have our upstream alignment release cycle follow within 48 hours of a Chia release. We were the first fork to release an alignment with 1.3.4 and the new GUI.
Chinilla has three part-time independent developers who are paid to work on features and updates for the blockchain as well as test new features. All pull requests and changes are currently approved and updated by me to add a level of quality control. We have also invested money into ensuring that our network has a quality timelord with backups and nodes running all over the world as well as any other services required to promote and maintain Chinilla. Chinilla is currently fully managed and funded by me, Edward Teach, as an open source project. I have worked as an independent full stack engineer for over 20 years and am fluent in Python, Ruby, PHP, Node, Javascript, Java, C++, SQL and many more. The bulk of my experience is in the following areas:
Our visioin is for Chinilla to grow into an active and robust community supported by a team of community developers who are engaged in listening to the needs of farmers and users alike. We have quite a few projects that are under active development, such as an Android/iPhone mobile wallet by Q3, 2022, an integrated decentralized NFT recovery solution, Asset Tokens and much more. We hope that our users and farmers will also help guide the direction that Chinilla will take as well by submitting a Chinilla Improvement Proposal (CIP) either through Discord, Github or Keybase. Any proposals will undergo discussions as well as examine and take into account the long-term impacts of the changes to the codebase. A poll will then be conducted allowing everyone to determine the fate of the proposal with a yay or nay vote. The future of Chinilla is in the hands of the users and we look forward to helping it grow and evolve naturally.
