Request: add releases or tag stable commits?

Before I move on with pushing my PR to nixpkgs I thought I should ask what the plan is regarding releases or tagging of stable commits.

Reason behind this is that if I one day forget to update the package, r-ryantm (nixpkgs bot) will be able to detect the new release and push a PR with me being assigned to the reviewing process. (a neat feature if you ask me)
