  • I have read the FAQs inside the app (Menu -> About -> FAQs) and my problem isn't listed.
  • I have taken the time to fill in all the required details. I understand that the bug report will be dismissed otherwise.
  • This issue contains only one feature request.
  • I have read and understood the contribution guidelines.
  • I optionally donated to support the Fossify mission.

Feature description

Add option to add prefix to phone number.
For example:
{Prefix}PhoneNumber
*31#123456789

Should be list of prefixes.
Specified prefix should contains list of numbers. Prefix should be added automatically to number when start calling. History shouldn't contains prefix, but should be any info (for example icon) to show, that prefix was used.

Why do you want this feature?

I need it, to show my hidden number for some contacts (family, friends etc). I have hidden number, but I can show my number when I add prefix (*31#) to my number *31#123456789. I can't add this permanently as part of number, because it doesn't work when I want to send SMS/MMS. Return error when I am trying to send sms.

Is there chance to implement it?

Sorry but no. This sounds like a very niche use case.

But it just text. You can add text field with prefix in settings window and later add option in context menu to add prefix to contact. One prefix is OK.

I think its not too complicated.

@pawlosck Did you try to associate both numbers (with and without prefix) to the same contact and use the one with prefix for phone calls and the other for SMSs?
As a last resort, maybe you can duplicate some contacts (e.g. MyMomPhone and MyMomSMS).

I think this feature will cover it and is also a not niche use case: #149.

I did not it. This solution probably should work, but I do not want to do it. I am sync my contact book with a lot of different apps and I do not want to complicate it. Some time ago I had big problems with one phone number in SMS app and I had to remove all SMS with this number, to solve problem.
I started to use this app, because I thought it will be implemented because its open source app.

Ps. Do you know any open source app with this feature? I need it. My family do not like my hidden number.

No further ideas, sorry.

Just to understand how your feature would work. Do you immagine something like this?

  1. Select a contact from the contact list or the call history
  2. A message appears asking if you want to add a prefix (or not)
3a) If answer is no, call starts normally to the selected number
3b) If answer is yes, then a list of prefixes appears and the following applies
  3. You select one of those prefixes
  4. The system checks whether the number selected in 1) has already a prefix (or not) and modify (or not) that number accordingly with your choice in 4)
  5. The call to the "new" number starts

All of this should be conditional to a general option in which you decide whether the phone should work as it is now or the steps above should be used every time you make a call

Is my interpretation (broadly) correct?

I agree that what suggested by @avatar1024 and mentioned by @Aga-C (#149) would be much simpler and general. With Fossify Keyboard you could also easily save a list of prefixes that you could reach with a couple of clicks.

So, you should hope that #149 can be implemented soon. You are in the hands of the developers. Actually, we all are. 😄

Generally is OK, but too complicated. Currently, all my calls are hidden for all contacts. I do not need to do anything to hide my numbers. This is option from my GSM company, but I saw similar option in Android.

For me, one prefix is OK, so it can be added one prefix in settings and for specified contacts adds checkbox 'use prefix' with options yes/no. When starts call, app automatically add prefix to number. I do not want to save this prefix with number. Would be mice, if prefix will be visible when start call, or at least any icon.

I have to check how it will work with country number.

I cant use Fossify Keyboard, because I have too big fingers to use full keyboard. I am using https://github.com/sspanak/tt9.
Personally, I think Samsung keyboard is the best, but I do not like like my keyboard uses internet, so I decided to switch to open source keyboard. Its not perfect, but works very good.
