Performance Difference Between FreeTube and YouTube Website #5727

I think there are plugins to force x264 videos on youtube. You probably have older hardware which doesn't have support for newer codecs. By default Freetube fetches the video encoded in x264, but they're switching to a new shaka-video-player that I believe will fetch videos with the same never codecs by default. |

If you want to play video on Youtube website more smoothly, force Youtube to play AVC1 (h.264) by using userscript or addon/ extension |

Hi everyone,
I’ve noticed a significant difference in video playback performance between FreeTube and the YouTube website and wanted to share my observations and see if others have experienced similar issues.
When playing the same video at 720p resolution in FreeTube, the playback is smooth and my PC shows minimal load. However, when I play the same video at 720p (and even 480p) on the YouTube website, it lags significantly, and my PC experiences a high load.
Here are some specifics:
FreeTube: Plays videos smoothly with minimal resource usage.
YouTube Website: Experiences lag even at lower resolutions, with higher resource usage.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? Are there any known fixes or optimizations that could help with smoother playback on YouTube’s website? I’d appreciate any insights or suggestions.
Thanks!
