Another use case is package version querying like in https://shields.io/category/version. I use these types of badges on some repos for two reasons. The first is to advertise the package is available for multiple platforms. The second is to get a quick view of what versions are being used across platforms. Would love to add a badge for FreshPorts, but no badge currently exists and I don't see an API to make one.

#3 has been waiting since early 2018 to hear back from the OP. Perhaps that is the start of what you need.
