We could (a) solve this so it handles overlapping regions or (b) try to ensure non-overlapping displayed regions

It might be some combination of those

possible fix here

The "spikes" in the screenshot are real and are weird large insertions before the end of the reads

Some work on this was added in #2198
It merges overlapping regions to create a more seamless view.
