Sunton / CYD 8048S043C display flicker & other artifacts

Hi all,

I started with the 2.8" CYD which was great but the viewing angles are poor, resistive touch not ideal, and it lacked PSRAM, so I upgraded to the 4.3" 8048S043C instead (basing my decision on the supported hardware pages in the documentation).

I'm sad to find that the display flickers at full brightness and the backlight appears to roll at lower brightness. There are also some other on-screen artifacts when changing pages and rendering in general.

Not here to complain - but hoping someone has one of these and has the knowhow to resolve these issues :) The LVGL demo that comes preloaded doesn't exhibit them so I know it's probably just config/library related.

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I found a solution. The bad news is that I found it by switching to ESPHome.

The same issue happens in ESPHome, however it's been discovered that using a specific older version of ESP-IDF works around it. ESP-IDF version 5.1.2 and platform 6.5.0.
