Homebrew should be added to the path for zsh and bash users. #783

The install script checks the shell you are currently using and shows you instructions for that. I don't think it's a good idea to make the instructions more complicated than they already are, which is what your suggestion will most likely do. |
Passing on this. We already do what we can here. |

brew install wget
. If they do, open an issue at https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew-core/issues/new/choose instead.Provide a detailed description of the proposed feature
So I recently had to erase and reinstall macOS on my machine. After doing so, I followed the installation instructions and found that the installation assumes the user uses zsh. I assume that this is because that is the default shell in macOS now but I personally (and literally 100% of my colleagues) don't use zsh and if I were new to being a developer, this would've screwed me up for a while until I learned a bunch of tangentially related but not directly related technologies.
Because Homebrew is regularly suggested in documentation as a preferred way to install certain software, I think that there is a disservice done to new developers by complicating the use of Homebrew.
What is the motivation for the feature?
I would like to have a smoother experience when installing and a better experience when teaching new developers.
How will the feature be relevant to at least 90% of Homebrew users?
Uhhh, how many people use zsh as a preference as opposed to people that use it because it's the default?
What alternatives to the feature have been considered?
I guess I could use zsh, but that's not what I want to do. Also, I just added the path to my
.bash_profile
so the problem isn't extant for me, just for people new to programming that use bash. The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
