Scaling issues for allowing multiple matches in PTPX

Pull request #165 updates PTPX to allow multiple matches for re-using existing composite states for new models, or creating a new composite state. The pull request is merged, but questions remain. What are the cases where allowing multiple matches implies that we need to address scaling issues. And what are the current mechanism to do that? Also see this comment.
