JabRef 5.3--2021-07-05--50c96a2
Mac OS X 11.4 x86_64
Java 16.0.1
JavaFX 16+8

Simple basic operations (create a library, add an entry, etc.) take a lot of time.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Install JabRef or download a dev version
  2. Open JabRef
  3. Press 'New library'
  4. Rotating colourful wheel is shown instead of cursor (not seen on the video)

Hi, just one question, do you have an M1 based Mac?

Hi.
Yes, this video was recorded on M1. However, with 5.2 I experienced the same issues (very similar to #7441) on Intel.
I'll check 5.3 again on Intel.

I do know that on Linux it runs smoothly.

We hope that we can soon switch to jdk17 and javafx17, which hopefully should bring performance improvements for m1 macs as well.
On my Intel macbook I see no issues

@homocomputeris Can you please try Version 5.8? It is now compiled for ARM64/M1 as well

In 5.8 it takes ~1 s.
