JabRef version

Latest development branch build (please note build date below)

Operating system

GNU / Linux

Details on version and operating system

Ubuntu 22.04, Swaywm 17, JabRef 5.8--2022-08-15--f7648e8 via snap

Checked with the latest development build

  • I made a backup of my libraries before testing the latest development version.
  • I have tested the latest development version and the problem persists

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

The citation key generator gives no date in the key for In-* entries which get the date value from a crossref.

I need to manually add the date to the entry to get an [Author][Date] citation key.

I would like a way to have the generator pull the [Date] value from the crossref entry.
Something like :
[Author][Date:From-Mary99]

which should give the key Author99

related: #6294

Hi, I would like to make an attempt at resolving this issue. Could it please be assigned to me?

I have followed the instructions and set up a local workspace.

I have also read the contribution guide.

It would be great if I could receive some advice/pointers on where to begin with this issue.

I am really sorry, I wasn't able to reproduce this error. My operating system is MacOS. It would be great if there are images or details on how the error can be reproduce to help on future resolving this issue.

In order to reproduce, the first step would be to link two entries (e.g. 1 Book + 1 InBook) together via the crossref field. See https://docs.jabref.org/advanced/entryeditor/entrylinks for how to do this.
