When creating a texture from a mesh or using Auto UV on a mesh already assigned to the texture, the UV coordinates result in a flipped texture on the front faces. This includes planes.
This is not the case with cubes.
Drawing in the UV results in a backwards result on the plane
and consequentially drawing on the object results in a backwards result in the UV
