Here is an idea for providing a cleaner setup for the hud, Adafruit sells an Arduino that can be used as a keyboard. If you get some momentary push buttons that can be panel mounted to your flight panel you can make a really clean setup. Here is the Arduino that you can use https://www.adafruit.com/product/3677.

if you want to pursue this, I have some experience with this I could write the script for you and merge it.

I'm using a keyboard I often use on Pi's that has some game controller functions. Also have a number of flat keypads that would work.

I'm also trying out a bluetooth numeric keypad. Not sure of the additional power drain but the usb one I've been using is backlit, so I think that's pushing requirement a little too much. I'm also looking more seriously at running everything on the stratux. Between my Android tablet, stratux, HUD, and additional pi, my cockpit is beginning to resemble Frankenstein's workshop... :)

I've had a custom image (of a much older build) that ran directly on the Stratux. I think the Stratux image is underclocked, so the frame rate was a little low.

It may be worth trying again with my latest changes since the FPS in the current 2.7 release is much improved.
