I wonder if something similar to #179 could be done for computing UL factorisations, i.e. $\mathbf X = \mathbf U\mathbf L$ for non-symmetric tridiagonal $\mathbf X$? Has much thought been put into this previously? Could be useful.

I might look into it eventually. Could be a good way for doing some testing. Non-uniqueness might make this less useful for that purpose though..
