Creating new document type(s) ahead of migration

What would be the best way of creating any new dependencies ahead of a migration? Can/should it be a part of the migration plan?

In my case, I need to create a few new doctypes ahead of running a migration because the migrations are dependent on them but they do not exist in the source site at present. I could create them manually but would prefer to automate this process due to the number of times this process if being repeated to ensure the final process runs as smoothly as possible.

Can/should I just use existing Umbraco features to programmatically ensure the content types are there at startup?

For anyone interested in how I did this, I inject the IContentTypeService into the constructor and then create the doctype(s) in the constructor for my migrator to ensure they exist before the migrator is executed.
