Liberating away from GitHub

Right now we're really dependent on GitHub, as this is might not be favored by everyone, it might be a good idea to decentralize our operations on other services. Let's start by listing what we depend on currently

• GitHub itself
• GitHub Pages (Web build deployment & Website)
• GitHub Actions (Circular integration and deployment)
• GitHub Issues & Projects (name implies)

A switch can only occur if the proposed alternatives are viable enough and are working with each other.

Why GitHub?

GitHub offers many features for free, as long as we are operating open and public. GitHub also helps us with exposure and accessibility with others.

Options considered so far

Git

• Gitea/Forgejo

Projects

• Jira
  • inaccessible to others
  • isn't designed to work with other issue trackers

Issues

• Gitea itself

Pages

• Codeberg perhaps, but our deployed files aren't/shouldn't be available inside a repository

I'd say https://lavaforge.org or https://codeberg.org will be our best bets for Forgejo instances. Recommending Lavaforge slightly more rn due to

• CI without needing to apply (altho Codeberg approves you almost instantly)
• Less users = faster
• Federation enabled
• Run by someone I know personally
