Locking apps to always start in the same workspace, and on the same display

Pretty much what the title says.

Apologies for asking an obvious (?) question, I am fully aware that I'm having some senior moment here (56yrs old) :), but I just can't wrap my head around this.

F.ex. if I start VSCode I want it to start in the same ws, and on the same display (I have two) every time, this also goes if I start a new instance of code.exe, it should start in the same ws, on the same display as the first one.

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

It seems to me that what you are looking for is workspace_rules

something like this (I hope this works)

Komorebi is worth your time :) I might as well mention that this setting will not allow you to move these windows to an other ws, so if you only need it to start on that ws (and move it to another perhaps) then you can test initial_workspace_rules as well

Yeah, I've been testing (on a couple of my VMs) some different tilling WMs from the one I am currently using, but changing this kind of stuff always involves a learnig curve to get the setup/workflow how I like it.... and so far I like Komorebi a lot.

Warning... Wall of text here.
Apologies, this may be bad form (mentioning other similar projects), but I do really like the GlazeWM apporach for this.

One setting in the config. "Move this process to this ws" every time.

So when I am working with something and see some error or edit needed to be done in a script or config, I can just write "code nameOfConfigFile" and it opens or get added to an already opened window in VSCode running in the same ws every time. Takes me 1 second to switch.

Window handeling is another point (still testing this), I run WSL, Windows Sandbox and VMware Workstation (mostly using vmware-kvm, not the gui) on my main PC.
The ruleset that Komorebi has, and updated by the community, seems to be a huge plus, I just have to learn more about the possiblities here.

I do not mind, really. To be honest, I started with Komorebi and got used to it. Never felt like I needed to switch. I am aware of GlazeWM and I know that many people are fond of it (the discord server is very lively). I am also just scratching the surface of what Komorebi can do, but I am very happy after my 5 months with it 😄

I've tested with both workspace_rules and initial_workspace_rules, but can't get it to work how I want it.
Very possible that I am doing something wrong here, but what, I have zero clue.
The "locking" thingy is a must have for me, so I'll look elsewhere for now. Komorebi has some really cool features (Dynamic Layout Switching is one), so I'll be keeping an eye on further development.
(I think my perfect WM environment would be a meld/combination of features from Komorebi, GlazeWM and the Yasb fork by AmN! ...or maybe I am just to old and grumpy..... 😆 )

If you are unsure, I would recommend asking on the discord servers, there are more knowledgeable people there (I am just a newbie)
