[Other platforms] Support for PeerTube Integration #568
Comments
I have to study Peertube's APIs and see how much they differ from Mastodon ones. For #427, for example, not only the APIs are highly different but the format of posts itself is not compatible so I kept it on hold. I'll investigate and come back on this. |
I take this opportunity to clarify and make a consideration. As you may know, Peertube also uses "ActivityPub groups": peertube channels are channels and channel authors are users who publish on the channel/group. Currently, Raccoon is the Fediverse app that in my opinion offers the best display of ActivityPub groups with the exception of the apps for Lemmy (which are in fact able to display Peertube channels correctly) which however has some problems updating content in non-Lemmy channels. The problem is that until the next release of Friendica, Friendica has a problem searching for Peertube content and for Peertube channels... so this advantage (displaying channels well) is nullified by the fact of not being able to search for them adequately! The final consideration is this: if you are a content creator, then it is appropriate to use the dedicated apps. Raccoon is an app for Friendica and Mastodon. Maybe in the future it could be an app for Pleroma or Threads, but it could make sense to make it compatible with Misskey or Bluesky, even if I think this is technically more difficult (but by now we know that @AkesiSeli is full of surprises...). These are all social networks. Peertube is not a social network. |
p.s fedilab integrates with mastadon and peertube |
Personally, I am growing more and more skeptical of a "one size fits all" approach. It is already difficult enough to have to support Friendica and Mastodon, plus there are some technical limitations in how attachments are handled (images, embedded images, videos and audios) on Compose Multiplatform and I know almost for sure that the result would be quite disappointing for users. I am not closing this issue because I want to keep track of this request and see whether users really want it, but I am not actively planning to progress on it in the near future. |
There are many apps for Mastodon, but none that work well with PeerTube. Since your app already integrates both Mastodon and Friendica, could you consider adding support for PeerTube as well?
