This PR is one of two for the moving of the 'updating appliances' content from the General Config guide to the Migration Guide (which is in our downstream repo still, so I couldn't single-source it at this time).
Could you please merge this if it looks OK to you? Feedback welcome! I added a note to look at the Migrating guide for the updating content, but since I didn't have a link yet, I could add a proper URL (maybe for a future fix?).
